The .223 Remington Field Gauge is used to verify the absolute maximum safe headspace in firearms chambered for .223 Remington.
A Field Gauge is slightly longer than a NO-GO Gauge. This model is 0.10 mm (0.004") longer than the corresponding NO-GO Gauge and represents the maximum acceptable headspace limit.
If the bolt closes completely on the Field Gauge, the firearm exceeds the maximum safe headspace and should not be fired until inspected by a qualified gunsmith.
